Business2Sea

Business2Sea is an international event focused on the development of projects and businesses in different sectors of the economy of the sea. Promoted by the Portuguese association Fórum Océano and the Centro Tecnolóxico do Mar (Cetmar), this event was to be held for the first time in Vigo, but the health situation derived from COVID-19 made it necessary to opt for a virtual format. The symposium, with about 600 participants, began yesterday, coinciding with the National Day of the Sea in Portugal, and will run until Friday.

Sherpa do Mar

This Monday's opening day included a workshop that, under the title Towards a Pact for Skills in the Maritime Technology Industry, focused on the blue economy and the needs of sectors such as shipbuilding, maritime transport and renewable energy. Among the initiatives presented was the Sherpa do Mar project, promoted by the REDE group, the Campus do Mar and the University of Vigo R+D+i Office, leading a consortium in which the universities of Oporto, Coruña and Santiago participate, together with CIIMAR, Uptec, Consorcio de la Zona Franca de Vigo, Fórum Oceano and Gain.

The general objective of Sherpa do Mar is to set up a new cross-border network between Galicia and the north of Portugal to stimulate the creation and consolidation of new knowledge-intensive business activities in the marine-maritime field. The presentation, led by the project coordinator, Andrea Ogando, a member of the Rede research group at the University of Vigo, analyzed the relevance of cross-border cooperation in identifying needs in marine-maritime entrepreneurship and synergies in the ecosystem to support the entrepreneurship.
