UNIVERSIDADE DE VIGO WELCOMES THE "SHERPA DO MAR" MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE TO EVALUATE THE PROGRESS OF THE PROJECT'S ACTIONS

The "Sherpa do Mar" Management Committee met at the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences of the University of Vigo to evaluate the progress made in the activities during the first semester as well as to plan the next actions.

This meeting, which was attended by representatives of all the project's beneficiaries, was of great relevance for the planning of the next activities. The partnership carried out a review of all the tasks carried out and the milestones reached so far in order, after this point of the situation, to set the objectives that will make it possible to face three main challenges during the next semester:

Challenge 1: Promote the connection and coordination of the different existing business support systems, both public and private, adapting them to the marine-maritime sector.

Till the date:

  • A diagnosis of the marine-maritime sector has been prepared, based on the exhaustive study of the current state of (intra) entrepreneurship and the technological intensity of the productive fabric.
  • The existing support programs in the entrepreneurship ecosystem have been identified.
  • Two workshops have been held to analyze the real needs of the sector in the field of (intra) entrepreneurship, which have been attended by Public Institutions, Technology Centers, Universities, Foundations, Social entities, Companies and representatives of entrepreneurship initiatives.

In the coming months it is expected:

  • Design an operational program to coordinate the support programs identified.
  • Develop and launch the i-SHERPA technological platform, which will provide support in the evaluation phase of new projects, among other functionalities.

Challenge 2: Promote university-company-university transfer, in order to convert research results into viable commercial products.

Till the date:

  • Work has been done on the creation of a knowledge map that is expected to be concluded soon and in which the capacities and competencies of the Universities belonging to the Galicia-North Portugal Euroregion (Universidade de Vigo, Universidade de Santiago, Universidade da Coruña, Universidade de Porto and CIIMAR) as well as the current research lines and also the already consolidated knowledge and its applicability to the market.

In the next few months:

  • After finalizing the Euroregional knowledge map, a scientific-technical advisory program will be designed that will be used to support the valorization of new technology-based business projects.
  • The bases of the "Sherpa Journeys" methodology will be defined, which will establish how to define the recovery and improvement itineraries for each entrepreneurial project / company, as well as the procedure to carry out their evaluation and follow-up.

Challenge 3: Improve the competitiveness of the sector.

In the coming months it is expected to define the bases for the selection of new business projects and companies in operation and to launch a call for their incorporation into the Sherpa methodology.
